Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Edgar Tiodin, the policeman who witnessed the shooting of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. in November 2009, came face-to-face with the killer in court and positively identified Jason Ivler as the shooter.

Ivler is being charged for the death of Ebarle, Jr., the only son of former Undersectary Renato Sr., following a traffic altercation.

SPO2 Tiodin alleged that he was driving home along Santolan Rd. in Quezon City when he saw a sport-utility vehicle (SUV), with diplomatic plates, block another vehicle.  The driver of the SUV, a young Caucasian male, alighted and shot the other driver before quickly leaving the scene.  SPO2 Tiodin tried to chase the shooter but lost track of the SUV when it turned into a busy street.  The SUV’s diplomatic plates were traced to Ivler’s stepfather, a British economist working for the Asian Development Bank.

When presented in court, SPO2 Tiodin twice identified Ivler as the shooter despite the presence of two other Caucasian males in court, wearing the same clothes and who looks similar to the accused.

Ivler was also allegedly responsible for the August 2004 car accident that killed then presidential adviser for resettlement Nestor Ponce.
